When I did the MM 2" jobbies, I used a diffractive/absorptive mix that seemed to work pretty well. I used a stuffed whiffle ball style semisphere about the same diameter as the Sd calculation, placed fairly close to the cone. It seemed to load down to about 1k, which was beneficial.
I have some pickle balls and a large Styrofoam semisphere pair that I plan on experimenting with along these same lines.

On those duval speakers the only frequencies that are diffracted are those below the diameter of the ball. Which makes for an interesting xo
