  • Those little blowers get the job done 98% of the time. I miss mine. I have a big 2 stage simplicity but haven't used it in years.

  • Those need some lighting to cast shadows on the building

  • Actually I think that's what they're for, but, they look neato reguadless.

  • The worst part about five days off in a row with a DIY event sandwiched in there is going back to work, such as is happening to me today. Sigh. Not working is my favorite thing in the whole world.

  • I retired some years ago, luckily we're in a great super scheme with a good pension. As suggested by a friend, the day after I retired I got up as usual, walked to the station for my usual train and waved it goodbye when it pulled out. Very satisfying!

  • I usually have several vacation days left that I have to use before the end of the year. Depending on how Christmas and New Years fall I usually end up with 11 to 13 days off in a row. January 2nd sucks though! And it's a long dry spell from then until the next short week.

I completely agree with this statement.

One of the best things, apart from breaking the routine, is not having to put up with ***t from some of those in charge and around you. However, I still can't sleep in.

Of course, it's important to keep physically and intellectually active: my interest in DIY speakers only happened after I had more leisure and more time for listening.

I also did volunteer work at our Air Force Museum for some time; I enjoyed 'giving something back' to the community and helping to educate people of all ages about the RAAF's history. For example, people were amazed that British and Australian pilots in WW1 didn't wear parachutes and that Darwin was bombed many times by the Japanese. Or that soldiers in WW1 didn't use mobile phones to communicate with reconnaissance aircraft...

  • I hate to admit, but the 9 months of unemployment I had almost 30 years ago was fucking fantastic. 20 years old and getting paid enough to pay the bills and not having to work. Not that it's right, but I see why people game the system.

Looking forward to getting to retire some day. One thing to look forward to is I'm fully vested for a pension from Bose...if it still exists when that time comes.

  • RIP Phil. 😢

  • Sorry, Lesh. Bassist for Grateful Dead. 84 y.o.

  • Saw him live at least 100 times. What a sound. He played a six-string, and used a pick. Some big ass amps, and a bunch of 18’s. He could drop bombs. So much fun.

  • Bummer! Not a big Dead fan, but much respect for those guys!

  • Me neither, but ditto.

  • Fun with water.

  • Just got our son's Christmas present taken care of! My friend is selling some equipment as he plans to sell his business and retire soon. He texted me, wondering if I knew anyone interested in a table saw. It has lots of accessories. I texted my son to see if was interested, but ending up buying it even before even hearing back from my son.

My friend has a Central Machinery 2HP dust collection system too, but I don't have room in little shop for that.

  • My dad had one of those ^ saws to go along with his ShopSmith MKV wood butchering system.

  • I have the Craftsman version, great piece! That one has an extra router leaf👍🏻

  • If you've watched these two companies over the last, oh, 25-30(?) years this seems a bit ironic. Two powerhouses who have lost their visionary leaders, then headed for opposing fortunes.

  • I would be surprised if regulatory agencies let that one go through. Sad.
